klw Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Hi --- Can not connect to the internet. I have logged it here under Vista as I think the problem lies with the vista pc. I have an xp machine ( this 1 ) that connects ok and a wireless pc with windows 2000 in the next room that connects ok it's just my vista pc that wont connect. I have a wireless router modem set up with the vista and xp pro pc,s hard wired and a windows 2000 pc connected wireless in the next room. I had a couple of warning signs recently where an error message " internet explorer has stopped working " was displayed and then I lost all my open web pages. I restarted them ok and carried on browsing until this morning when I now get the standard " I/E can not display the webpage ". I am up to date with all updates as far as I know. Webinar this afternoon as well. Anybody any ideas please ? klw Quote

Please try to use some different browser like Mozilla Firefox and see if are able to "connect" or not. Post back the results as soon as possible. :) -- Goku Quote
Goku Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Also, I think that it is a bug in Vista the causes Internet Explorer to crash every time the following script is loaded. <html> <body> <script language="JavaScript"> obj = new ActiveXObject("giffile"); obj.bgColor; </script> </body> </html> Its known as the ActiveX bgColor bug. Click on this link. It will open in a new Window but will crash Internet Explorer 7. Therefore any page with this script will crash in Vista summarily. Try the above test and see if it works or not. I am almost sure that it is due to the same bug but I just want to confirm my suspicion. Please post back the results as soon as possible. :) -- Goku Quote

Goku Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I just clicked the link and it did crash my open window in IE7 on my Vista. Just testing my system for you Goku. Thanks a lot Randy. That confirms my theory. Unfortunately, there is no known fix for it yet. If only Microsoft would release one, then you might be able to have a crash-free experience. :) -- Goku Quote

Try the download again and let it complete if you have to keep the computer idle for some moments. The bug will even cause Internet Explorer 6 to crash so there is no need to worry. It is fault at Microsoft's end and not yours so there is nothing you can do to cure it. Cheers! :) -- Goku Quote
