Guest john Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 I Have hundred of blocked cookies that I now can not see or edit. Cookie viewer programs have only allowed me to view ALLOWED cookies. When I go to IE Properties> Privacy> Sites> down to managed cookies, I can only scroll down to the letter "E" It does not allow me to view or edit beyond that. WHY? Is there a folder where all blocked and allowe cookies are. I have looked in Temp ie folder, there is only allowed cookies there. Is there a registry edit to aloow more to be viewd?

WHY? Um, because there were, well, BLOCKED. What did you think "block" meant? If I block all people over the height of 5 feet through my only door in the house then do you really expect to find anyone over 5-foot high in my house? No, they were BLOCKED. Blocked means blocked. Those cookies were NEVER created because they were BLOCKED. You cannot view something that does not exist.

Guest john Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Re: viewing blocked cookies If the program list blocked cookies, then there is a file some where of ALL those blocked cookies. How then would it remeber to block them. Since there is a list of them on my computer, that is different than the blocked ones on yours. Ergo, I have a file or registry that contains them. My question, where is it, how can I edit it? My question, > where is it, how can I edit it? > It blocks them by site. So it doesn't allow them on your PC since you have instructed your web browser not to. The cookies are not downloaded then blocked, that would be a waste of bandwidth. Whenever the site offers a cookie, it is refused, ERGO, they do not exist on your HDD in the first place. There may be a list of the cookies that have been refused, but that would just be the file names. The list of names would be generated *after* the cookie has been offered and refused, so there is no list of pre-denied cookies, the list is generated when the site you specified offers either one or twenty cookies. Why ask a question if you refuse to accept the answer. > > "Vanguard" wrote: > >> "john" wrote in message >> news:2CF7A501-F5FB-457D-BE94-E1905B0FB307@microsoft.com... >> > I Have hundred of blocked cookies that I now can not see or edit. >> > Cookie >> > viewer programs have only allowed me to view ALLOWED cookies. >> > >> > When I go to IE Properties> Privacy> Sites> down to managed cookies, I >> > can >> > only scroll down to the letter "E" It does not allow me to view or >> > edit >> > beyond that. My > question, > where is it, how can I edit it? Depends entirely on HOW you are blocking cookies. Usually cookies are blocked by what type of cookie they are. You can configure IE to block all cookies so obviously no list is required. All is all regardless of what site tried to create one. If you allowed 1st party cookies but block 3rd party cookies then a site that tries to write a cookie that specifies a different domain can read it (cookies can only be read by the domain it was created for) then no list is required. If you add sites the Allowed list then cookies from those sites are allowed. No list is needed of the cookies that were allowed from those sites, just the list of sites from which you are allowing them to save cookies. Similarly there is a Blocked list of domains you specify that can never create cookies on your host, and you don't need a list of their cookies but just the domains you blocked. Internet Options -> Privacy Advanced (to configure cookie handling in general) Sites (to see the Allow and Block lists)
Guest john Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Re: viewing blocked cookies NO. As I stated in the orginal posting. If I click on settings, it only allowes me to scroll down to "C". If I click on domain it lets me get to "E" Nobody has answered my problem. I would have though that MS people would know. People keep saying that no cookie exist on my computer since I have it blocked. I Know that. I want to edit/view the BLOCKED list on MY COMPUTER. Guest Gary S. Terhune Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Re: viewing blocked cookies Sorry. I found the list and thought I'd posted it last time... In the Registry, each item in the Blocked/Allowed list is a sub-key of this Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\P3P\History If the default Value is DWORD 5, the site is blocked. If it's 1, the site is allowed. Unfortunately, I don't know what's caused your Sites dialogue to behave as it is, but I'd try Exporting the entire Key listed above, then delete it and then recreate just the key above, without all the sub-Keys. (Create a new key under ...\P3P\ called History.) That should blank the entire list. Then test the list. Just go to a bunch of sites and accept or deny cookies as you desire until you have a decent list. Make sure it includes sites from all parts of the alphabet. See if it behaves now. If it works, try restoring the Exported list by Merging the REG file you saved when you exported the list. If it still works, fine. Otherwise, you'll have to leave it alone and rebuild the list as you go to the sites, or slowly test each individual sub-Key, exporting and then deleting each one, testing, and then restoring it if the list still behaves OK. My *guess* is that one of these sub-Keys is corrupt. If your test shows the dialogue is still misbehaving after first clearing the Registry keys and then testing, then IE probably needs Repair. Guest john Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Re: viewing blocked cookies We attempted everything you have lisdted in you're previous message. However it did not solve the problem i had explained. We Deleted all of the registry keys Under P3P/History and then we re-ran the "Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal". It then Re-installed the 27,000+ Blocked Cookies. Once again it only allowed us to view down to the letter C. I also have I.E. v 7.0 Any other Troubleshooting Suggestions that you may have i am willing to try anything. "Gary S. Terhune" wrote: > Sorry. You've been informed as to what IE has for cookie management. There is no log of blocked cookies maintained by IE other than those that just blocked for the page you are currently viewing (click on the status bar section with the crossed-out eye icon). You can only see what cookies that *just* got blocked for the current page. Maybe that was what you were trying to find. There is no history of what cookies that were blocked before. If you want such logging then start Googling for cookie managers. Maybe one of those have the history function you want that is not in IE.
Guest Gary S. Terhune Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Re: viewing blocked cookies When you use Advanced cookie management, and you set either or both types (first-party or third-party) to "Prompt", when you get a prompt to let a cookie be set, you can choose the option to "Always" accept or deny cookies from the site. The list of Blocked and Allowed cookies is found under a button called Sites. That list of Blocked and Allowed cookies actually resides in the Registry, as I previously described. Even without Advanced cookie management, that list still exists and sites can be added via the Registry. It is that list that the OP is referring to. -- Gary S.
