Hi

Could someone please help me with a small problem I have with my sound.

I first noticed this problem approx 2 months ago when I tried to listen to wmp, each and every song I try to play the artists sounds like the chipmunks, I thought it may have just been with WMP so after checking with a local pc store (small company) they suggested installing another music player and seeing if the problem was with WMP, it wasnt..... I installed Real Player and found the same problem. I also have the same problem when I listened into football live online (not running through WMP nor Real player).

As far as I am aware the sounds seems to be normal when I check my speakers during a test and also my start up and shutdown sounds seem to be ok but I can't really rememeber what they are supposed to sound like.

I have looked in Device Manager and updated the sound drivers ( I think), I have also tried System Restore but this doesnt solve the problem.

My operating system details are:

Windows Vista: Home Basic SP1 32 bit

please please please can someone help me with this

Many Thanks

Hello and Welcome to FPCH Useless@PC's. :)

I think Allheart has hit the nail right on the head. Though the link might only apply to Windows Media Player 10, the cause of the problem might be same. Please try to lower your hardware acceleration for your sound card and see if that helps or not. :)

Hello Kerry. Did you try what is said in the link or you could not adjust your settings for your sound card? :)

Also, to know more about a sound card and what it is, read the following article.

No worry Kerry. Can you please tell me the make and model number of your sound card? It might be that the system need updated Audio Drivers. :)

Use the following utility to extract the information regarding your sound-card.

SoundCard Detector

Let us know the results as soon as you can. Good Luck. :)

I have tried to run a windows update however it says no updates are avaliable

and where do i find the graphics cards details to be able to confirm or deny the above question.

Posted

Is the card less than a year old?

I only mention it as I have a pc with a 2900XT in and it has HDMI capabilities and you have to disable them or it tries to run with all the other sound devices.

If there are no updates on windows then its doubtful their is a newer one.
