Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 Well any new unit would have Vista on it so it all comes down to what you want to spend mate. Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Going to buy a new base unit If you can - build your own - you get better components and can choose makers that you know will compliment each other, and save yourself some cash. from what you have described what you are using the PC for I would go for an 8800GT (this card is great upto a 1680x1050 resolution) (Nvidea reference one the Overclocked ones are expensive for little or no gain) A decent MOBO - ASUS or GIGABYTE and a Core 2 Duo processor and some decent RAM (2GB PATRIOT is £25 at the mo  PC6400 dual channel) all in all you are looking £250 - £300 depending on the MOBO and Core2duo you go for and then you just need to pick a case and a PSU if you need any more help post here and I will help Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
quaytec Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 Was looking at spending about £400 on a system from pcworld, curry's or comet. Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 (edited) you will only get a budget PC from one of those retailers for that amount of money - if you do buy from one of these make sure that all the parts are NOT integrated onto the mortherboard or it is impossible for you to upgrade it in the future - You could build a much better spec PC for £400 than you can buy one for and in the future when you want to upgrade the graphics card for example you can just swap it out. quaytec Posted June 18, 2008 Author Posted June 18, 2008 Dont fancy building my own. Are Mesh any good ? Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 I've just got a nice HP box, it was rather more than £400 though. Consider HP or Dell. Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 I have no experience of buying PC's readymade - have a look at people like EBUYER and just have a scan around the net for cheapest prices. If you are lookig at spending £400 you will not get a PC that can play games at 1280x1024 with everything set to full.
