petef Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Overclock mode was set as Auto but i changed it to CPU, PCIE Async and this really seems to have been the solve. Ahhhh, but the real and final test is to set it back to Auto and see if the original problem returns. I know you probably hate to do that becasue it's all working now, but that's what is need to confirm the final conclusion. :) ---pete--- Quote

Dalo Harkin Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 If the MOBO overclocks as standard which we said :D then chances are that the controller for the memory and GPU was clocking too high for the Memory. If the CPU setting in the BIOS is set to AUTO as was the case with Swickle, could those clock settings change on their own to cause the problem he was having? ---pete--- Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 If the BIOS had been updated - AUTO to a BIOS is setting the clock speed, multiplier and all the voltages and the settings for the RAM including the timings and voltage and the devider between the CPU and RAM - if its set to AUTO it also controls the Northbridge and the Southbridge - (controlling the GPU, RAM) It could be anything that has interrupted the MOBO settings - loose jumper is normally the culprit - I swap all mine out for ones on the back of CD/DVD rom ones as they are a much tighter fit ;) Once spent about 2 hours trying to find while the MOBO was losing settings at every restart - thats the cause of me having no hair  Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
Swickle09 Posted June 19, 2008 Author Posted June 19, 2008 I can't wait to find out what happens when you change it back to Auto. Drum roll please, set back to Auto, and it all works!!! what a weird problem to have and a relativly simple solve. When the prob first happened it was set to auto so i dont have a clue what made it decide to go **** uo but so glad its solved, huh and i bought a new HDD haha. Cheers guys for all help. Pete Quote
petef Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Drum roll please, set back to Auto, and it all works!!! what a weird problem to have and a relativly simple solve. Ok so let me get this straight, what actually solved the problem was toggling the various setting in the BIOS to disable things like sound card, graphics card, USB controller, LAN etc and also by changing CPU setting from AUTO to something else. Then you toggled everything back to it's original setting and all remains normal. Correct? If correct, I don't have an explanation. Maybe someone else can enlighten us. About the spare HD you purchased, I recommmned that you install it internally as a second drive or convert it to an external USB drive and use Acronis True Image software to backup your entire drive C: on a scheduled basis automatically. Your OS, programs and data will then be protected against most disasters that can occur on your PC. ---pete--- Quote
Yhdeksas Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Old post, but helpful as this just happened to me. After screwing around for a good 3 hours trying to fix everything (I was able to boot into safe mode for a few minutes at a time every second attempt), I jumped into my bios settings and found that my Asus Overclock Utility had set my cpu to 120% - which I disabled, and was able to boot fine. I tried all the suggestions mentioned previously, and kept running into the same problem until I tried the above. I have an Asus P5N32E-SLI motherboard. Yay! Props to whoever mentioned overclocking first in this thread (can't remember the name), but that post gave me the idea to check my settings. Windows Users - 1 Microsoft - 0 :D Quote
Kozmyk Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I had this problem with my system, hanging on crcdisk.sys Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R Intel E7300 Radeon HD4850 4GB RAM Vista Home Premium 32bit I drove me crazy. I tried ALL of the above to try and fix it ... nothing I even bought a new HDD and an external dock to check the old HDD on my laptop. Old disk checked out OK. I started a new Vista install n the new HDD.... still hung on crcdisk.sys Eventually, in desperation, I tried reflashing the BIOS, even though this mobo has a dual BIOS system and SHOULD be protected from BIOS corruption. IT WORKED!!! So I put the old HDD back in. sometimes it hiccups on bootup and I have to restart but it does work.I wouldn't be surprised if there are a couple of corrupted files or links on the HDD after all the desperate attempts to get it going again. The new HDD is now a clone of the original. Acronis wouldn't work for me as it refused to see the destination disk, mounted externally, either by USB or eSATA. I used EASEUS Partition Manager to do the cloning instead. The 32bit version was a free download ... nice. Only thing left to do now is clear up this erratic starting problem. I'm hoping it's just a dodgy driver. It's a different condition to the original, seems to hang bu tI suspect it's booting but not showing on the monitor, a graphics driver perhaps. A Safe Mode then restart seems to fix it ... for now So good luck with your CRCdisk.sys. Maybe try a BIOS flash if you're stuck. It worked for me ;^) Quote
sonyproblem Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Same problem? 2 years ago i bought my son a Sony Vaio. No problems until the beginning of this year. He shut down the laptop and the day after he could not start up. We do not have a back-up disk. tried all the available options but no errors found in hardware and/or software. I created a recovery CD from a site and booted from there but it ended with no errors found but the system does not start up. I don't know how to get entry to the BIOS and/or how to change things in there. Can you please help? Henk Quote

Starbuck Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Hi UltraMario and welcome to FPCH. You have replied to an old thread, so may well get very few replies. Please start your own thread and give as much information about the problem. That way you stand a much better chance of getting a reply. BTW: Replying to another members thread is this way is classed as 'Thread Hijacking' and most people may disregard your post. Quote Member of:UNITE
UltraMario Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Oh, and could the problem have anything to do with my Boot Options and/or hard drive? Oh, sorry about that. :/. Quote
