It does appear like an improvement to Windows Vista. Perhaps, it might become the next Windows XP for the future generation. It does look like an Operating System with a decent amount of potential. :)

If it it all comes down touch screen then I foresee serious problems.

If the monitors on the table top then you'll get back ache, if it's vertical then you'll need arms like an ape.

What about women using it with long nails, oops there goes another TFT panel!

Verdict: Nah

Lol - that is spot on

I do agree in the fact that it is not practical - as for them actually getting this up and running with no hitches (cough, cough)

very doubtful - in fact to coin a phrase of wolfeys - about bearing on the town hall steps :p

My fingers are are always dirty. My grandsons are worse. I just got him trained not to touch the screen.

I sure hope there is an option not to use touch screen and much more real content to offer.

Touch screens have their advantages in certain scenarios, but most definitely not in everyday computer tasks.

The Windows 7 GUI seems to be modeled after the iPhone. When I first saw

a demo of the iPhone it seemed like a fantastic user interface and that's still

true becasue the iPhone is a portable *handheld* device. However, this

new style of interface seems all wrong for a traditional PC workstation.

I'm assuming that Windows 7 will be marketed for desktop computers

as well as laptops. If true, Microsoft seems to have goofed again by

designing a new OS that has a GUI best adapted for a handheld device

but marketed for use on a desktop computer.

I see so many problems associated with a touch screen

on a desktop computer or even a laptop. I'll list them below.

* Screen constantly needs cleaning.

Montors will need a washer and wiper system similar to the

windshield wipers on your automobile. (joking) :D

*The millions of PC workstations in the world now are ergonomically

incorrect for adapting a touch screen. Can you imagine a 22" screen

repositioned to be close enough to touch it? Now it's too close for

comfortable viewing.

* Seems that the ergonomically correct position of touchscreen would

interfere with a traditional keyboard that is also in an ergonomically

corrrect position.

* The user's arms will get cramps or fatigued.

* An entirely new PC workstation will need to be designed if the

touch screen is to succeed for a desktop PC. Unfortunatley,

the average business or home user is not going to like the idea

of throwing out their old computer worksation furniture. So

this sounds like another poorly thought out idea by Microsoft.

Touch screens are not new technology becasue GE was using them

way back in the 1990's for training employees. I was one such employee

and I can tell you that moving & clicking a mouse is much better than

reaching out with your fingers to touch the screen. On the other hand,

for a portable device like a phone or PDA, the touch screen seems to

make good sense.

If Windows 7 is not widely accepted by the general public

it could breath new life into Windows XP and Vista.

Agree there.Leave this technology in Supermarket Checkouts where it belongs.Microsoft seldom gets anything right, and I don't wish to experiment, with touch screens.

Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
