Guest SANTANDER Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 I installed Adobe Reader 6.0.1 twice, by mistake. I had Adobe Reader, it worked OK, i just thought that I got the new version, and installed it twice. Now, when open PDF or run Acrobat, I see notification error message "There was an error while loading the plug-in 'PaperMetaData.api. The plug-in is failed to initialize.". After confirming, PDF opens normally. I tried repair installation use 'Repair' option provided by Adobe Reader 6.0.1 installer, but this not help. Regards, Santander

Thank you. | Santander | You should note that if you intend using Adobe Reader in 98, the last version is apparently 6.0.6, and the updates address potential issues/flaws in prior releases [including plug-ins/Java/scripting etc.]. Also note these installs WILL increase the disk usage and memory requirements for the application. Memory requirements can be somewhat relieved by limiting the plug-ins loaded at reader startup. -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.orgfree.com ________

Answers on which can be disabled and how to accomplish this can be found in various places [and even some on Adobe] but it would not be my place to advise concerning your personal needs or use. Your individual needs or intended use, are likely contrary to mine. You can stop the *Reader* update issues by disabling the check in the Reader. Requests to download other updates [really plug-ins] should be left at individual needs [they can also be disabled], though ALWAYS check WHERE the plug-in comes from [preferably from a trusted site], AND for Spyware, virus or other, BEFORE installing AND after. That includes a search on the Net for any related discussions or warning for whatever you intend to install, or disable. You can also limit or deny access from the Reader to the Internet via your firewall, which IS what I recommend, particularly as the 6.0 version is apparently no longer being updated, so the Reader [not the browser helper] has no present need to contact the Internet. -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.orgfree.com ________
