Guest JM Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Hi: I scanned my server for vulnerabilities, and fong a few of open ports that I dont need. Exist a way to close them, directly at the server, without using the firewall.? I can remove some IIS's services like nntp, smtp, but I would like to close the rest. Thank you JM
Guest emmanuel meurant Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 RE: Is it posible to close open or unneeded ports A very small one is tinyproxy. It can be used for free and creates logs that would suits your needs. -- mcse 2000 - mcsa 2003 and still a lot to learn... Guest John John Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Re: Is it posible to close open or unneeded ports Sure, TCP/IP filtering on the local area connection or IP Security Policies on the Local Machine. Guest CreateWindow Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Re: Is it posible to close open or unneeded ports Hi, You can close ports and protocols at the IP (Kernel) layer in Win2k / 2k3 etc. by setting this up in the advanced IP properties. Pick any NIC and select "Internet Protocol / Advanced / TCP/IP Filtering". Note, this will affect all traffic on all NIC's.
