Guest Jeff Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 I have a Toshiba notebook which came pre-installed with Windows XP MCE (Media Center Edition). Some of the files were apparently corrupted causing me to hang when I use Windows update. So I contacted "Windows Support Online" and they told me to run Sfc /purgecache sfc /scannow which I did. Scannow wants to recover some files from "Windows XP Professional CD2". But Toshiba did not supply Windows XP CDs. Instead I have a folder named C:\WINDOWS\I386 which I believe is where Toshiba placed the original Windows files. How do I tell scannow to find the files there? The scannow popup asking for files does not give me the option to direct it to look anywhere other than on a CD? I emailed Windows support online back but they seem to too busy to reply to me and I am stuck. Thank you. Jeff

That is why I asked. Is there a way to maybe create the needed Windows CD from the I382 files? Jeff

Read the messages by noaj and chuket at this address: http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=sw_winxp&thread.id=194367&view=by_date_ascending&page=1 They direct you to use a Run command commencing "rundll32.exe setupapi etc" which should enable you to carry out the transfer. I have not included the full address to avoid giving you incorrect information.
