Guest Andre De Clercq Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 During the years I got several small programs on my PC. Is there a way to know if a specific program has been installed or just copied without install?
Guest Newbie Coder Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Re: Installed programs Andre, You can look in the Program Files (START | MY COMPUTER [Drive Letter] | PROGRAM FILES) directory or START | CONTROL PANEL | ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS -- Newbie Coder (It's just a name) "Andre De Clercq" <andre,declercq@pandora.be> wrote in message news:ua6pwIe1HHA.5992@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > During the years I got several small programs on my PC. Sorry, I find this question very confusing. perhaps it would help if you explained what you wanted to do with the information. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup

Although most programs won't run at all unless they have been properly installed, there are occasional small self-contained programs that can simply be copied to the drive without installing, and that will work. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup
Guest Andre De Clercq Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Re: Installed programs I want to make a backup file for all the programs I have on my PC (not the basic ones like MS Office, Photoshop...) For this, I want to group the program files which don't need to be installed separately from those which need to be installed, for which I am going to save the install files and keys instead of the program itself.. Guest Kelly Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Re: Installed programs Belarc: For a detailed list of all installed software and hardware: http://www.belarc.com/Download.html In the Software Versions section you'll see all of your installed software. At the end of each entry is a clickable asterisk that will take you to the folder the software is installed in. -- All the Best, Kelly (MS-MVP/DTS&XP) Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm Is it October already? Except for a very occasional small program, all programs need to be installed to run. For that reason, backups of programs are generally not useful unless they are part of an image or clone of the entire drive. I would recommend that instead of doing this, you simply save the original media for *all* programs. If the programs were downloaded, you can save the originally downloaded file, or worst case, if you no longer have it, you could always redownload it when you needed it. However, if you want to do this, see Kelly's reply. > "Ken Blake, MVP" <kblake@this.is.am.invalid.domain> wrote in message > news:h2l6b39tjcj0kjidv4abdpeqnilh7iber3@4ax.com... > > On Fri, 3 Aug 2007 17:23:21 +0200, "Andre De Clercq" > > <andre,declercq@pandora.be> wrote: > > > >> During the years I got several small programs on my PC.
