How do I fix a Black Screen on Windows 10 after changing the monitor refresh rate from 60hz to 144hz?

I just recently noticed that my refresh rate was set to 60hz when I have a Samsung 144hz gaming monitor (Using a custom built gaming PC with Nvidia Drivers). I clicked "Advanced Settings" and it took me to a page where I could change the refresh rate. I selected the drop down arrow next to where it said 60hz and I selected 144hz. After this I immediately got a black screen but audio was still playing. I left it a minute to see if it would sort things out but it didn't. I force shutdown the PC and then turned it back on and I was still presented with the same issue. I then unplugged the monitor
