Having just acquired a new computer I have been trying to find a way[so far unsuccessfully] to either migrate e-mails to webmail [say gmail] from outlook ,outlook express or thunderbird OR to record them on dvd so that they are viewable on new computer

thanks for reply downloaded gml but cannot seem to open it?

tried unzipping the zipped file but that didnt work ?

Delete the file and try downloading again.

I just DL'ed Google GMail Loader to a newly created folder from... Mark Lyon's GMail Loader (GML) - Import Your Mail into GMail

I double clicked the file... gmlw.zip

Then used CTRL+A to select all the files displayed.

Then right-clicked the selected files and clicked.. Copy

Then clicked the up-folder icon and right-clicked the white space and clicked.. paste

All the unzipped files are supposedly ready to be installed, but I don't

see any setup.exe or any file that sems to be an installer.

I started reading the instructions.. Mark Lyon's GMail Loader (GML) - Import Your Mail into GMail

and they are not written very well, so I think GML is overly complex

and unsuitable for you unless you want to dedicate a lot of time trying

to figure it all out. As I said, I have not actually tried it up to now

and I can see now that it requires high level of expertise to perform

the entire process or at least some better instructions.

I haven't tried it but you can look at this article "Export and Backup Emails from Outlook to Gmail Online". In case you miss the link in the article you might also want to look here.

Another thing that I've done in Outlook Express is simply save the mails you want to keep as a file then burn to disk. They'll open just fine in Windows Mail that comes with Vista. Of course this is not practicable if you have a huge amount of mail.

Then of course there is always the option to just forward the individual mails to a web account. Again not practicable if you have a huge amount of mail.
