Guest Vista Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Hi. I want to change my XP licence key. I've tried Jellybean key-changer, but it won't allow me to change it. I vaguely remember changing a value in the registry a long time back that effectively locked this. Can anyone throw any light on what value I might have to change back to allow the change? Thanks, Vista

Why do you want to change your XP License key? Is 'want' the proper word? The Genuine Advantage Product Key Update Tool is only valid for users attempting to change their current non-genuine Product Key to a genuine COA sticker or genuine Product Key - all without a reinstall! http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50346&clcid=0x409 -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

The prog at the link successfully changed the product key, but now leaves my system "un-activated". It wouldn't verify online and I'll be damned if I'm gonna call them. I tried replacing the wpa.dbl (in sys32) with my old one (as suggested in some forums), but no luck. Vi.

Lots of stuff to enter/write down - but you will usually never speak to an actual person and if you do not activate - what you just did is for nothing. It BASICALLY means that the license you are using (product key actually) has been used inthe last 180 days (activated actually.) Activating by phone is the choice you want to make. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
