Guest Colin Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I have a laptop that I backup to a PC hard drive. When using the PC and trying to open the backup on the PC the laptop backups are not listed as the log files are on the laptop. How do I change the location of the laptop backup log files so they are stored with the backup on the PC? -- Thank you, Colin.

The log files generated by ntbackup.exe contain only information about the success/failure of the backup run. They contain no information that is useful for a restore operation.
Guest Colin Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Re: NTbackup log files - using Windows XP home edition If I use my laptop to create backups of my laptop and save these backup files on a networked PC how do i open these files using the PC if my laptop has a hard drive failure? When opening them from my PC to restore them NTBackup does not show these files in the list to be able to select them to open them? Do I have to create the backups from the laptop using my PC only to be able to do this? -- Thank you, Colin. Guest Pegasus \(MVP\) Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Re: NTbackup log files - using Windows XP home edition Your observation is at variance with my own. When I use ntbackup.exe to create a .bkf file then I can open and examine and catalog this .bkf file on any PC. Ntbackup.exe is not the easiest of programs to use. You might consider using a third-party product instead, eg. one from Acronis. It would make a recovery in case of a hard disk failure very easy. Guest Colin Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Re: NTbackup log files - using Windows XP home edition Hello. I have solved the problem - I didn't realise that I can catelogue backups from within the programme. Just done this for all the laptop files and all are now listed accordingly. -- Thank you, Colin.
