Internet connection times out?

I have DSL from ATT. I must of changed something by mistake and now after a

few hours of use, after a reboot, the systray will get a icon that is for

connection disconnected. It appears in "Network Connections, LAN or high

speed internet. Local area connection 8 disconnected. Firewalled Realtek

RTL839 Family PCI Fast Ethernet ". I do not have a network and assume that

this still needs to be in Network Connections? That is the item that gets

disconnected and of course I can do nothing but reboot and start the process

all over again. Seems like it is on a timer or I do something that activates

the disconnect? Can someone advise what I should check and correct?

Thanks.

if you have Zonealarm as a firewall you need to mark the internet connector

as safe zone, else it won't connect to refresh DHCP and thereby times out.

Adding to Sgopus advise, try to check your Power option for the NIC from the

Device manager expand the Network Adapter to locate your NIC, right click it

or highlight it then click the properties button.

On the NIC properties click on Power management and make sure the Computer

not configured to turn this Device for power saving.

RE: Internet connection times out?

I assume you mean the power setting in network connections for the Realtex

rtl839 and I remove the check on the setting the device turn off by it's

self. Will reboot and see if the connection times out again.

RE: Internet connection times out?

Open ZA Control panel click on Program control >> Look in the right

pane/window make sure you click on programs Tab beside Main.

There you will find these headers:

Programs v | Access | Server

Locate your Connection /NIC then under access right click Under each:

Trusted and select the Green Check Mark for allow, then under internet

Make the same selection.

BTW, yes I meant Power settings.

RE: Internet connection times out?

NIC, Network interface card, (not your modem), used for cable and DSL

connections to the internet also known as ethernet card.

it has one plug in connection similar to the phone plug (slighty larger) as

opposed to the modem which has two plug ins. (one for the wall jack, one for

the phone jack)
