I am new to this forum but so far I have found it to be helpful to users. Just recently, My unit has been attacked with viruses and Trojans, thanks to my younger brother who keeps plugging his MP4 player to it without my knowledge. I tried cleaning the virus through my anti virus program, but i am sure something has managed to proliferate. I know this because some pop-ups keep on showing on, and command prompt automatically runs every 10 minutes or so. I ignored them, thinking that maybe those "signs" will just vanish, till one day my pc stopped suddenly, I restarted it, but since then it always fails to boot. I get this message every time I try to run it - "CMOS checksum bad".I tried the "CMOS battery thing" but it has not worked out fine for me. Can anyone give me a hint on how to deal with this problem? And what is the real problem anyway? Thanks!

Hi Aldin

Welcome to FPCH

So just to ascertain, you have in fact changed the motherboard battery and reset the time yes?

Posted
Yep, I have changed the time and have even followed instructions on how to do it the right way. I also optimized the settings, as per the motherboard manual instructions, but my pc still fails to boot. It can only go as far as the setup utility page, but after that the BIOS does not load, nor does the OS.

Please do Aldin and if at all possible the make of your Bios.

You need to re-flash the BIOS - if you have the original disk that came with the MOBO it's on there -

Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)

Asus P5K premium black pearl

4GB OCZ Reaper 8500

260GTX

Hello and Welcome to FPCH Aldin. :)

CMOS checksum bad means that the contents of the configurable CMOS section of BIOS doesn't agree with the stored checksum (derived by a mathematical formula from the contents the CMOS should have).

In other words, the contents of that section of memory is not what you stored there and needs to be fixed. The reasons can be many, ranging from a virus to a hardware fault.

As you rightly said, that you were infected by a virus and since then, the PC failed to boot, I think it is also the reason behind your "dead" computer. In this case, I would suggest you wait till our Malware experts come online and review your case. Thank you for your patience and co-operation. :)

Hey guys, I guess I don't need to tell you the specs anymore now that I plan of re-installing Windows :(. But I do appreciate the help anyway. Thanks!

Hello Aldin. I do not mean to discourage you but can you please elaborate on how you can re-install Windows if you are not able to get past the logo screen on boot? Just curious to know if the option is still available to you. :)
