Guest Ket Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Has anyone experienced the following behavior with IE6? Two PCs on same LAN, one newer then the other but both with XP SP2 and with an ADSL connection. Automatic Updates works fine on both PCs. But the older PC has trouble with manual Windows Updates in IE6 (Tools>Windows Updates), it fails with the standard DNS error page at various points before getting to selecting updates pages. Took the PC back to my office and it works fine on my ADSL (differnet router and ADSL modem). The newer PC works fine in the original office as well. Only the older PC has the problem. Have disabled Norton IS, Windows and the ADSL firewalls. Have added MS update sites to Trusted Sites List. Have tried different port on router (haven't tried different Ethernet cable yet). Any suggestions?

When it fails, are there any red icons on the status bar at the bottom of the browser window? If so, click the icon and change the settings. This could be a security, or privacy (cookies) issue. -- Joe =o)

The WindowsUpdate.log will contain error codes indicating just what is causing the issue. Go to Start > Run > type in %windir%\windowsupdate.log Click OK. Then check for any error codes located towards the BOTTOM of the log [the most recent entries] here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938205 When you locate any, post them to the Windows Update newsgroup along with the OS/SP level, etc: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsupdate&cat=en_US_56d1dd45-de9e-4fc5-9bc1-2d1d0de6daee&lang=en&cr=US MowGreen [MVP 2003-2007] =============== *-343-* FDNY Never Forgotten =============== Ket wrote: > Has anyone experienced the following behavior with IE6? > Two PCs on same LAN, one newer then the other but both with XP SP2 and with > an ADSL connection.
