snap-in failed to initialize

Recommended Posts

I am using XP pro. Yesterday it gave me a spooler problem when trying to

print. I restarted the computer and it has now wiped out all the printers

there.

I cannot get into the services to see whether the spooler function needs to

be restarted as it gives an error message snap-in failed to initialise.

I wanted to restore and this function is just not there. In properties it

has been turned on, but if I go to Accessories it doesn't show.

I have been on the Help and Support, but the system restore wizard will not

start.

I would be grateful of any help.thanks

A Google Groups search showed many threads on the subject.

Wesley Vogel has a couple of tips here:

Re: snap-in failed to initialize

Hi Patricia,

You can start the Spooler service using the NET.. Command.

Click Start, Run and type:

cmd /k net start spooler

Press {ENTER}

>> gives an error message snap-in failed to initialise.

Posting the exact error message and the GUID code would help.

Re: snap-in failed to initialize

hi Ramesh

It accepted this instruction and all printers were back in printer folder,

but then 2 secs later came up with message Spooler Subsystem App has

encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

It will not allow any printing to occur and will not cancel any printing

jobs pending. And the printer folder again appears to be empty.

If I go services.msc it gives the error message snap-in failed to

initialize. Name Services CLSID:{58221C66-EA27-11CF-ADCF-00AA00A80033}

hope this explains it better

Re: snap-in failed to initialize

Hi Patricia,

There are some Microsoft KBs that address the Spooler issue. Check:

http://www.google.com/search?q=Spooler%20Subsystem%20problem+site:support.microsoft.com

>> snap-in failed to initialize.

For the snap-in issue, try this:

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 filemgmt.dll

Press {ENTER}

You should see the following output/message:

"DllRegisterServer in filemgmt.dll succeeded."

Click OK.

See if you're able to launch Services MMC now.

Re: snap-in failed to initialize

hi Ramesh

I looked at some of the solutions and from Article ID : 324757

Cannot get into services manager, but went and completed steps 2 to 11 but

could not follow step 13 as cannot access “manage” I have deleted one of the

printers and reloaded it, but it will still not print, it says that it is

waiting for info from the printer.

If I try to run the reg server it comes up with this error message

LoadLibrary(“filemgmt.dll”) failed – the specified module could not be found

I also cannot load pastel 2007 as it gives a run-time error message as it

cannot find WBtr32.dll. Are these problems all related?

Is it time to reload windows or is there some way I can run a repair

thanks

Re: snap-in failed to initialize

Try including the full path, such as:

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\filemgmt.dll

Re: snap-in failed to initialize

Hi Ramesh

I have sorted out the pastel 2007 problem by reloading pervasive v8.6 and

this has now sorted out the printer problem. I still can't get into file

manager, but at least the computer is now functional.

Many thanks
