USB problem.

Hello, Noob alert.

 

I have recentley obtains a computer and come across what i think is a strange problem. The computer is roughly 3 years old and is running windows XP.

 

The problem i have is with USB devices.

 

I have three USB mice and when i plug them in to the USB slot, the computer 'detects' them and the speech bubble at the bottom left appears with a brief description of the mouse. The mouse also 'lights up' but there is no motion when you move the mouse!

 

I have tried changing things in BIOS a little but still no luck. There is something about mouse power and keyboard power. They were both disabled and i was unable to enable the keyboard power. When i enabled the mouse power it still didn't change anything.

 

Keyboards also don't work via the USB ports.

 

I bought a PCI USB card today and the problem is identical. Could someone help me please. I'm sure you're all aware of how frustrating these niggling problems can be.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte model: 7VM400AM-RZ.

 

Please don't hesitate to ask further questions.

 

Just to add, i quickly searched this forum for a similar problem and tried something that some expert recommended. I tried the remove the policies but i got an error message from XP saying..."You can only import binary registery files within registery editer."

Have you tried to uninstall all the USB drivers then restart the computer, then windows will install the USB again.

Are the mice and keyboard wireless Ryan with a USB infra red connector?

Try less USB devices they all need power and the PSU or MOBO may not be up to the job.

Can you tell us what mouse it is? If the mouse is from Microsoft, then please read the following article and see if it helps or not.

 

The Microsoft mouse pointer moves erratically or does not respond when you use a Microsoft pointing device
