Excel /Word problem

In the past I had trouble with service pack 2 and did not have it on my

computer. I decided to install it so I could download Mindows defender. After

installation and updates I could not open Excel or word documents. For Excel

I get 'Cannot Read' and for Word " file is not available" pdf and picture

files, also in My Documents, open fine. I ended up removing service pack2-

still couldn't read files, repaired Windows XP Professional--still couldn't

read--reinstalled Office xp Small Business-still can't read files. Help!

Re: Excel /Word problem

sp2 is not likely the

cause for the

o.s. and office to

become dysfunctional

word and excel

also work in safemode.

you might try to see

it they function there.

Re: Excel /Word problem

Thanks for responding. One of the updates that followed was for

Office--perhaps that was the cause. Thgis is about the fourth time I have

installed and later uninstalled service pack 2--I always have a problem of

some kind after installing it. I have fixed it. This time I uninstalled

Office before reinstalling and the problem disappeared.
