Guest Pat Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Windows XP Pro, I need to copy an account (let's call it AdminAccount) that has administrator privileges, to a new account that I need to create (let's call it UserNew) - the new UserNew account will be a user-level account. I need to copy all settings from AdminAccount to UserNew, including desktop and start menu. (However, IE6 in AdminAccount only has a few favorites, so if I don't copy them over it's no biggie.) AdminAccount will be deleted later. Recommendations on the web include manually copying over USER.DAT and such, but I'm not sure if that's the safest method? What's the best/safest way to do this? Thanks, Pat

Do this instead: 1. Log on as the new user, e.g. as JDoe. 2. Reboot the machine. 3. Log on as an administrator (but NOT as "AdminAccount"!) 4. Follow this path: Start / Control Panel / System / Advanced / User Profiles / Settings. 5. Click on AdminAccount, then click Copy To. 6. Specify "c:\documents and settings\JDoe". 7. Ignore the warning. 7. Log on as JDoe.
