All backgrounds are white and all text black...

I've tried the latest versions of IE and Firefox, but the backgrounds on all

websites are white all of the text is black. (all hyperlinks are blue) I

went into 'Tools' on IE and Internet options, general, colors. The 'Use

Windows colors' box is checked. I think it may be something to do with

'themes' or 'appearance' in Windows, but I can't figure it out. Anybody have

any ideas? Thanks.

Ummm... Unless the web page specifies otherwise, what you're seeing is

correct. Background is white, text is black, links are blue and links you've

already visited are purple. What are you expecting if not what you have?

I'm not entirely sure which "websites" you're talking about. If you're

referring to the shortcuts on your desktop you can go into Start > Control

Panel. Then click on the 'Desktop' tab. The lower right hand option

"Color" is where you can change the colors on the names of the shortcuts.

Don't forget to click on 'Apply' after you've chosen a new color. Hope this

helps ... if it's what you were looking for.

Re: All backgrounds are white and all text black...

Does it sound likely that _all_ websites will look like this?

Is it possible that some windows theme has been applied, a high visibility

theme for example, and it has taken effect system wide.

Any change if you use Firefox and change the page style through the view

menu?

Try setting the appearance back to XP default and see what happens.

I knew there was something else, but my brain is Swiss cheese these days...

Click the Accessibility button in Internet Options, General tab, and see if

"Ignore colors specified on web pages" is checked.

yes, i think this has to do with a Windows theme, because even help screens

and other windows that have nothing to do with Internet browsers don't look

right. I went to 'Display Properties' in control panel, but didn't see

anything for 'XP Default'.

Perhaps you set High Contrast? See Control Panel, Accessibility Options,

Display.
