Microsoft Photo Editor Error message

I have just got a digital camera and tried to send some photos by email.

There seem to be various photo programs on my computer but Microsoft Photo

Editor seems the most straightforward for me to use. However, though the

email does get sent, I receive the same Error message each time I use it,

which is very disconcerting.

The message is: 'Microsoft Photo Editor has encountered a problem and needs

to close'. I tried doing a search on the message by typing it into Google

but, though several people seem to receive it too, I can't understand any of

the suggested ways to cure the problem. Can anyone help me please? (In a

very easy-to-understand way)

I just tried it and yes you do get an error:

<quote>

AppName: photoed.exe AppVer: 3.0.2.3 ModName: unknown

ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 6038c3ae"

</quote>

My advice for the time being is not to use the MPE "Send" function. Send

your photos from Windows Explorer (Right click > Send to) instead.

If I recall correctly PhotoEd isn't even supported any more by MS so it's

unlikely this problem will ever be fixed.

By the way, I also just discovered that the photo MPE couldn't send is put

in the Outlook Express outbox so the next time you "Send/receive" or "Sync

all" from OE, the file will get sent.

You've already gotten an answer from Opinicus. I'm posting to suggest a

very easy-to-use free image management program from which you can also

send your emails. That program is Picasa by Google. Get it here:

Dear Opinicus

Thanks very much for your help. I really appreciate it. There seem to be

so many ways to do things on the computer - and I seem to have very little

flair for it. Still, I'll keep plodding on and will get there in the end!

Thanks again

Re: Microsoft Photo Editor Error message

Dear Malke

Thanks for your reply. I'm dashing off just now and haven't got the time to

try it straightaway but this seems the option for me to use. I just want to

know how to crop a photo (Microsoft Photo Editor made it seem simple) and how

to reduce the size so that it doesn't clog anyone's Inbox up. I'm on dial-up

and it takes forever to send (and receive), so I don't want to do that to

other people!

Would you happen to know what size I should reduce the photo to? I can't

find a reference anywhere and the photos that people have sent me all seem to

be very different. 70%? 50%? (Don't worry if you don't have the time to

reply to that query)

Very many thanks again

It's hard to answer that question because it all depends on the picture.

Since you have dialup, even though your recipients might have broadband,

give a thought to how long it is going to take you to send the data

(picture). You might want to experiment by sending differently-sized

images to yourself.

Re: Microsoft Photo Editor Error message

Dear Malke

Thanks so much for replying. Yes, I have been trying to send photos to

myself but to say it tried my patience would be really understating it! By

the time my dial-up had 'sent' it and then – finally – 'received' it, I could

have done a million useful things. Not to mention when I tried using

Compressed '(zipped) folder – that sent the photo twice each time. God knows

how long I've spent trying to figure it all out. It finally dawned on me I

could ask the Newsgroup for help.

I have downloaded Picasa and was immediately relieved to see that it

mentioned the main things that had been bothering me, so I'm sure this is the

way to go. It looks ideal. You're right, the people I know with computers

have broadband and just hit the Send button.

Thanks so much again. Don't bother to reply.

Kind regards

Fran
