The missing color red was not the cause of my failing monitor, but the

setting 'without restart after a color change', which can affect certain

programs, in this case the display itself, triggered the discrepancy.

Choosing to restart after a color change instead, eliminated my problem

entirely on the spot.

Quite a learning experience, when considering it worked for so long.

But Harry, that was one of the very reasons why I asked you to clarify your

actions in my reply to your original post. And your reply was :-

Err... Except the colour depth settings - it seems!

 

Didn't you notice any changes at the time - and their correction next time

you booted?

 

Anyway, not only am I pleased that you've resolved the issue - but

hopefully, you've learned from the experience.
