Guest Information Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 We have slaved a drive from a dead laptop into our desktop, and are unable to access our old folder in Documents and Settings. Both systems are running XP Home. I know access can be obtained, but I am forgetting the specific steps. We are logged in on the Desktop as an administrator, so I have access to the Security settings on the drive. Can someone please point me to the rights steps to take over this folder again, so we can copy our data to the new system? Thanks in advance, Dan

To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter. Once you have access to the Security tab you can take ownership of the files and give your account Full Control permissions.
