Can’t sign in to windows. They are suddenly asking for a PIN instead of PASSWORD that I have always used.

They say I can change from PIN to PASSWORD in “sign in options” but I can’t get to that without signing in. How can I change this? I’m working from an iPad to resolve this. I don’t want to but am considering going to a Mac. (Can’t afford it). Microsoft is IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch with. Also my security information is outdated. I had no idea until this came up. It’s an old email that I can’t get into and a landline for the telephone number. I have to wait 30 days from today for the new information to go through.
