Guest Jim Ormsbee Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 If I open a dos window (command prompt) and go full screen by pressing alt-enter and then exit by typing 'exit'/enter, my display goes blank. The same think happens if I press alt-enter a second time. After this I can toggle using alt-enter between a full screen dos window and a blank display. The keyboard seems to be fully functional. Knowing the keystrokes, I can shutdown or restart windows, but I cannot seem to restore my desktop without doing so. Also if I let the screen saver activate I seem to be in a permanent blank screen. Any suggestions. Thank you. -- Jim Ormsbee

You can lower graphics hardware acceleration in Display Properties, Settings tab, Advanced button, Troubleshooting tab. If this helps, you probably need a different graphics card or drivers. -- Joe =o)
Guest Jim Ormsbee Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Re: No display after full screen command prompt exit Thanks but that didn't work. I moved the slide to none with no change. Any other thoughts? The adapter is listed as an Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Grapics Controller. The driver version is 6.14.10.3943 dated 11/2/2004. "Driver Detective" did not find any later driver. -- Jim Ormsbee "Elmo" wrote: > Jim Ormsbee wrote: > > If I open a dos window (command prompt) and go full screen by pressing > > alt-enter and then exit by typing 'exit'/enter, my display goes blank. Guest Jim Ormsbee Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Re: No display after full screen command prompt exit I did find a later driver on Intel's site, which I installed. It seems to be working now. "Driver Detective" doesn't seem to be quite up to date. Thanks. -- Jim Ormsbee "Bob I" wrote: > Try Intel. > http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intel845g/ > > Jim Ormsbee wrote: > > > Thanks but that didn't work. Guest Munawwar Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Re: No display after full screen command prompt exit i tried pressing alt+enter to enlarge the dos window.but it's a bit too large(streched vertically).i cant see the first two lines(so the 3rd line appears as the 1st line). I tried on another computer.but, heh , the font, graphics, cursor etc are a bit too small.(rest of the screen is black.hey but it still is a 640x480 graphic screen! & ?). os is windows xp(both pcs). How do i get the window to be of the right size? Note: my knowledge about dos & windows is "too less".so iam not looking 4 complex solutions. 2nd question: how do i run a program in the background?ie the console window must not be visible.i made a program (a maze solver program) using the old turbo c++.the program is too slow(probably due to bad algorithm).the program should be able to recieve keystrokes even when "hidden" so that i can "unhide" the console window whenever needed(i hav used c++ commands such as cin,bioskey()).is it possible?its better, if i can do it by system calls. That's all. Thanks(in advance) Munawwar
