Why does my PC update before scheduled update?

I got a notification my computer needed to be updated.I had to use the computer continuously.So I scheduled the update.Many hours from then on.I took a break from using the computer.Shut it down and charged it.When I came back to the computer, turned it on, that exact update (which was estimated it would take four minutes and it was about that time it took) and black screen and no way to cancel it.The update notification had disappeared (update reminder was all the time on, even after scheduling).And when I went to "update-tab" in settings, my computer was updated.What can I do to prevent this
