How do I tag people in photos that have been scanned in?

Recently my family scanned thousands of family photos, and I want to avoid tagging people manually. I plan to sort the pictures in chronological folders, but would like to be able to search for photos by people (ex: my grandma, or great grandma). I saw a previous question/answer, but it referred to a "people" tab in Photos, and I don't see anything like that. (This question/reply was from 2018.)The other question I have is about the metadata associated with the photo. For example, if OneDrive can't auto tag people, can I run the photos through another program, and then upload the photos to One
