Problems with Explorer and Internet Explorer

I have been having a problem with a laptop and I need some help.

Internet Explorer. When opening a new window nothing happens and the

page stays white. Menu Items such as View Source do not do anything.

Event Viewer. When browsing Event Viewer i can't see any properties/

extra information of any of the items in it.

Explorer. I cannot drag and drop anything. Also when right click+Copy

it will not paste into the same window. If i open up a separate

explorer window it will copy ok into there.

I have tried:

sfc /scannow

reinstalled Internet Explorer

copied explorer.exe from a working laptop to the broken one

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

regsvr32 actxprxy.dll

regsvr32 shdocvw.dll

regsvr32 mshtml.dll

regsvr32 browseui.dll

regsvr32 jscript.dll

regsvr32 vbscript.dll

regsvr32 oleaut32.dll

regsvr32 wshom.ocx

regsvr32 jscript.dll

Anti-Virus check

Ran anti-spyware and nothing was found

None of the above methods have made any difference and I am not too

sure what else to do. Ideally I would like to avoid a reinstall of XP.

Thanks

Chris

Click Start >> Double click Control Panel >> Double click Network and

Internet Connections >> Double click Internet Options.

On the IE Properties click on Programs Tab (if you are using IE6 or Advanced

tab if you are using IE7) click on Reset Web settings.

Open a run command, type in:

services.msc click [OK]

Make sure this service started Auto:

Event Log

Click [Ok] and close the Services control panel, Reboot your machine and try

to access the internet, does it help?.

Look in the event Viewer by typing in:

eventvwr click [OK], is there are any Logs recorded there ?.

Did you scanned for Viruses and malware from different Vendors?.

HTH.

Thank you for your help.

I tried the steps above but the problem remains. Event Viewer does log

events but just wont let me view them so I can see if a problem

occured just nothing about it.

Try in Safe Mode, also you can create a new account and try you may have a

corrupt/damaged profile.

To start the Drag and drop, right click the start Button, select properties

then click Start Menu then click Customize button.

Click Advanced tab, then make sure this check box is checked:
