Viewing Image Files is slow and choppy.

Good afternoon,

I have a Proliant DL140 G3 server running Windows Server 2003 R2. The

machine has 2GB of RAM installed.

Users are noticing that viewing .tiff files and .pdf's is painfully slow and

choppy. Would a RAM upgrade fix this? We are using Adobe Acrobat 8 to view

..pdf's and we're using the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer to view .tiff

files. Our main concern is getting the .tiff's to be viewed faster. Any

information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks very much!

More RAM will not fix the issue. This is a problem with terminal

services. 3rd party products like Citrix Presentation Server help

alleviate these types of issues.

Re: Viewing Image Files is slow and choppy.

I am not so sure that it is simply "bad MS Terminal"

How big are the images?

How many users?

How fast is your network?

What is the network saturation?

How much RAM is being used by TS when you observe this behavior?

What are you using to run the terminal sessions, dedicated terminals

(neoware etc) old lousy workstations, newer workstations?

I run a TS with up to 20 connections at once, without choppy .tiffs or

pdfs, so a blanket statement to buy several thousand dollars worth of

software seems to be jumping the gun.

RAM may or may not be an issue, but there is a lot going on between

the TS and the client.
