Guest Madd Scientist Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 i'm having an on-going issue with a few users at my company. we have a print server that is running 2003 server, and we use AD, and all of our machines are running XP. the problem is that when certain users change their AD password, they lose their connection to the network printers. the only way to fix this in the past has been to "Start - Run" to the print server itself, where it will ask for the user's new password, and once it has the new password, the printers connect properly again. the odd thing is that not everyone is affected, as we have hundreds of users changing their passwords every day without having this issue. we have enough users with this problem now that reminding them of how to fix it each time they change their password is becoming a nuisance, so a permanent solution would be greatly appreciated. thanks
Guest Ike Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Re: print server authentication problem more info would be nice. what makes these users different? are they part of certain group, what are the limitations or GP? are they the newest members in your company? I would suggest to pick a volunteer from the affected users, rename them in the AD and recreate it by copying profile from non-affected user. good luck "Madd Scientist" <mikecornthwaite@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1186596543.050222.101180@q75g2000hsh.googlegroups.com... > i'm having an on-going issue with a few users at my company. we have > a print server that is running 2003 server, and we use AD, and all of > our machines are running XP. the problem is that when certain users > change their AD password, they lose their connection to the network > printers. > > the only way to fix this in the past has been to "Start - Run" to the > print server itself, where it will ask for the user's new password, > and once it has the new password, the printers connect properly > again. the odd thing is that not everyone is affected, as we have > hundreds of users changing their passwords every day without having > this issue. > > we have enough users with this problem now that reminding them of how > to fix it each time they change their password is becoming a nuisance, > so a permanent solution would be greatly appreciated. thanks >
Guest Madd Scientist Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Re: print server authentication problem the one characteristic that some, but not all, of these users have in common is that when their accounts were first being set up on their PC, I used my own AD credentials to connect to the printer for them. then, once our printer admin gave them their own access to the network printer, i deleted the printer and re-connected to it under their account.
