We'd like to determine if the problem is with the wireless system or with the Vista machine.

- Is the other PC (the one that works fine) connected with a wire or wirelessly?

- When you lose the wireless connection to your Vista laptop, can other machines connect wirelessly?

What is the router manufacturer and model?

Hi Lynne and welcome

there are power saving options on the wireless device, goto control panel and then power options and set the settings to NEVER hibernate.

You can also go to device manager and click on the device and where there are option for reinstalling - on the furthest right tab there is an option that says 'turn the device off to save power' untick that and click apply ;)

I am sorry this is a bit vague but I cannot do screenshots from my current location.

Hi Kelly

The other laptop connects wireless with no issues and stays connected when this one drops off. My router is a Edi max had router tested and is working fine

So it sounds like it's in the Vista machine. When you said you turned the modem off and then on, I assumed you meant the wireless router. Do you mean to say that you're turning the wireless radio on the Vista machine off and then on to regain the connection?

Do as Dalo suggests.

Now as this looks like a problem with the Vista machine, what make/model Vista machine are you using.

Also - are you losing the connection while on-line or is it more like the machine goes to sleep and the connection isn't there when the machine wakes?

This is strange indeed. Can you check the signal strength on the Vista machine?

Sometimes, wireless signals will drop if the signal is weak and something like a refridgerator door opens or someone picks up a cordless telephone. But your issue of having it disconnect when you try to open a web page is different. However, let's check the signal strength just as a precaution. It's probably in the wireless icon in the Notification Area (a.k.a. Sys Tray) which is on the bottom right of the screen to the left of the clock.

Maybe as you said it's a driver issue. Please try doing a Windows Update. Maybe there's a new driver available.
