Power Options Properties greyed out - how can I change settings?

I have been using this Toshiba Satellite laptop for about 3 years now and

have never had a problem with it remaining on. This morning I had to

reformat the hard disk and now it is going into some kind of a standby mode

when it didn't before.

I tried to chance the power options properties but they are all greyed out.

I cannot figure out what to do. There is no problem with the battery and

the computer is plugged into the wall outlet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try opening event viewer for specific info to power options, you'll probably

see an event/warning for this..

After re-installing Windows XP, there is always the off-chance that some

proprietary drivers or utilities will need to be re-installed. Check the

laptop's manual for this requirement amongst its power-savings options.

If so, locate the utilities or drivers cdrom and install.

Thank you for your reply but how exactly do you open the event viewer?

Thanks in advance,
