Why did my computer just randomly shut down on March 1st?

I remember how on March 1st, I was worried about what happened, and I thought the boot sector was destroyed (which didn't happen), something changed it, the battery died, etc. Someone else in the household noticed it started to charge during midnight. This is still a mystery for me, even on the 14th of March.
