How can I copy across all the music along with the metadata from old PC to external drive?

Trying to copy all my music from old laptop to external hard drive, so I can play it on my new machine. I've done a simple copy and paste from old laptop to drive (via File Explorer) but when I've connected the external drive to the new W11 machine and started uploading all the files to Media Player, it seems I've lost all the metadata that used to show up in my WMP12 library, with most of my music showing up as "Unknown Artist".Was I doing something wrong? Should I be copying the files to the external hard drive in a different way? Maybe via WMP12 to the hard drive? Or did I make a fatal mist
