sound and video using same IRQ

I have Sisoft's Sandra and was looking through the IRQs in system

resources. Both Envy24 Family Services Controller (audio) and the

video card (nVidia GeFore 7600 GT) are using IRQ 16. Will this causes

problems? I've been having audio problems. Thx.

When do the sound problems happen.

Are you using onboard sound or an add-in card?

Sharing IRQs can cause problems, but often trying to assign specific IRQs

causes a lot more problems. I don't think it is a common problem with todays

comps. I think if a PCI card won't share and IRQ happily it isn't fully

compliant of the PCI 2.0 standards, but don't quote me on that ;-)

Some games specify hardware acceleration by default for the sound which can

cause problems.

If you can re-create the problem, you might running DXdiag, (from "run" on

the start menu or command prompt), and under the sound tab lowering hardware

acceleration there to see if it makes a difference.

BTW System Information under System Tools menu provides this hardware

information also.

I was getting no sound when playing DVDs (other audio worked fine),

but I think I solved it. I had recently reinstalled XP and needed to

reinstall the decoders. Now getting DVD audio in VLC (haven't tried

the other players yet). What still has me stumped is I can't install

new drivers for the sound card. Keep getting 'access denied.' Doing

some research it could be due to another device using the card, but

haven't done any further trouble-shooting yet.

Ran DXdiag with no errors.

I know. I'm a beta tester for SiSoft. :)
