Guest Chupo Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 I have a few 16 bit programs that I run every day: Webster dictionary (Windows - 400 KB .exe), SaveIcons.exe (Windows - 24 KB), RestoreIcons.exe (Windows - 24 KB) and old DOS version of MAME. I was using them *every* day, especially the dictionary. Suddenly, I can't start either of these. I don't get any error messages, the only thing I can notice is an hourglass (for a half of a second) and that's all. The most weird thing is I still can run IconSaver's executables when I log on the another account (both accounts have admin rights). I've tried 'sfc /scannow' - no errors. I've tried config.nt/autoexec.nt/command.com repairing - still the same. It seems to me I have the following problem: http://www.winforums.com/showthread.php?t=1688 although I don't receive any errors :-/ I've read/tried: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767 http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Spyware-virus-DOS-programs-t166437.html http://www.thennews.com/a/n05/Command%20com%20prompt%20in%20XP.php http://tinyurl.com/2kxxnp and even more (virus scans, AD Aware, Registry repairing, Hijack analysis, system Restore, ...) but without the results :-( Everything was fine until yesterday and now the only thing I haven't tried is Windows Repair. I am starting to consider a reinstall, however that's what I'd like to avoid if possible. I assume there could be a solution similar to: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/7530 but I am not sure what to register. I also assume every 16-bit SW (Windows/DOS) is affected, does anybody have any idea what tests to run to confirm the assuming(s)? Or even better does anyone know how to resolve the problem? :) -- Chupo
