Guest mark.bitrot@gmail.com Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 I've recently been having a strange problem with my laptop (running Windows XP SP2). When I put it into hibernation, it all seems to work OK (the Hibernating progress bar appears, runs right to 100% and then the machine powers down). However, when I switch back on the PC boots from cold rather than resuming from hibernation. This has only started happening in the last few weeks, before which hibernation used to work fine. Things I've installed recently include Office 2007 Small Business Edition, Windows Desktop Search 3.01 (for instant search in Outlook) and ActiveSync 4.5. I've now uninstalled WDS but the problem still persists. I've trawled Google and the MS KB for this but can't find anything. Before I try to pin it down more forensically, I just wondered if anyone has seen this before or knows where I might find more information? Best regards, Mark
Guest CreateWindow Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Re: XP SP2 boots from cold following hibernation Hi Mark, Try running a chkdsk /f from a command prompt and re-boot. Or, chkdsk /r for a full C drive check. Make sure you have enough room on your C drive too. The hyberfil.sys required for hibernation is quite big. CreateWindow http://mymessagetaker.com The While-You-Were-Out program you always wanted. Stop using those paper phone message pads make the computer work for you for a change! <mark.bitrot@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1186873650.557561.122320@o61g2000hsh.googlegroups.com... > I've recently been having a strange problem with my laptop (running > Windows XP SP2).
