Guest Michel Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Hello, I am using Outlook 2003 for a while now, and have a question about it. The pst file is actually a big document, in which the separate mails are stored. If you remove a mail you get a hole in the pst file. And I mean space in the pst-file that has no actual mail in it, but takes space on the harddrive. I was wondering what you need to do to remove these holes from your pst file. Am I correct in assuming the pst file is the archive of Outlook? So archiving is not the way to go? Michel PS. I searched for both Outlook, 2003 and Office as newsgroup. As I could find none, I posted this post in General

Right click on the Local Folders at the top of the folder tree and then Properties and then Advanced and compact the messages. -- Alias To email me, remove shoes

Guest DL Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Re: Holes in pst file As others said, you compact the Personal Folders The pst 'is' your Personal Folders file containing all outlook data The pst is a type of database file. An archive is when you remove data from the current Personal Folders to a specific Archive pst, by default named archive.pst You would have to remove a significant amount of data for it to impact on the size of the pst "Michel" <Michel@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6E75771D-A5AF-4502-926D-3F117306C51C@microsoft.com... > Hello, > > I am using Outlook 2003 for a while now, and have a question about it.
