Ok I got this from HP complete with all the usual HP garbage installed like Norton and other crap stuff.

It also has Vista recovery on a partition which makes me scream as, I think Ron commented earlier, is a very loose and sloppy practice and I despise and loathe it most vehemently.

I'm considering getting the full version of Vista Home Premium albeit minus SP1 here

I can get SP1 later but my most important priority is to be back in control and have a reinstall disk like it used to be in the old days.

Does anyone foresee problems?

Cheers guys.

No mate - you should be fine with that - I HATE the way they do partitions now they do it for people who have no knowledge of PC's and it can be a godsend to them - but they do the partition after all the programs and software installed.

Lets be honest it's just a ghosted image, which are NOT reliable.

You have made the right decision in opting for something that you can be in control of - :D

Just to check that you are aware with the OEM versions MOST retailers will not sell you one unless you buy it with an INTEGRAL part of kit (gone are the days you can buy a £2.99 mouse  and get the disk lol)

so you MAY need to buy a CPU,MOBO, or HDD - if you dont need any - give me a shout and I will get the HDD and either I can mail it to you - or the other way round :D

A hard drive is a hard drive. A retail version of Windows is inclusive.

Boot from the retail Vista CD to do a clean install and the HP add-ons will be gone. Update everything. Keep in mind you might need to search for proper drivers since you will be using a non-HP reinstall.

Also keep in mind that Recovery options are different in Vista Home Premium and Ultimate so choose wisely between the two.
