Guest Ken from Rochester Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 I need to open Windows in the Safe Mode to perform a MS fix for another problem. The instruction says to hit F8 after the BIOS information is displayed. I have tried this and variations of hitting the F8 key with no results. Is there any other way to open in SAFE mode?

Start tapping F8 as soon as the BIOS info starts displaying. Keep tapping it.

Guest AJR Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Re: Cannot go to Windows Safe Mode Using F8 to access the optional menu is usually the standard procedure - and often it is difficult to "hit" the key at the correct time - also some OEMS assign another primary function to the key with the optional menu available as a sub-function or via other ways(documentation?). To boot into Safe Mode: Start>run>msconfig>boot.ini tab>check Safe Mode option. After your "fix-it", return to msconfig and uncheck the item, otherwise boot will always be into Safe Mode. Guest Porkribs Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Re: Cannot go to Windows Safe Mode Alternatively force a hard shutdown Turning off the computer from the switch, turn it back on ... and you get safe mode. Not a very good alternative but it works. Guest Ken from Rochester Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 RE: Cannot go to Windows Safe Mode One problem solved, and a new one appears. I use a wireless keyboard and mouse. We found out that perhaps the keyboard isn't getting the signal to the PC in time to go into SAFE mode. Plugging in a normal keyboard and hitting F8 after the BIOS info got me into the menue to select SAFE mode. The PC did not go into SAFE mode however. Instead, I got a blue screen with text (that I did not copy down) and that's it. I guess I will need to duplicate that blue screen message and post it here.
