Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

Hello,

I have backed up my files, transferred them from the original PC to a LapTop

via a USB direct network connection, yet when I use the F&ST Wizard to

retrieve the saved file I get the message

"The location that you specified does not contain stored information. Please

type a valid folder path into the edit box.

If you entered a path to a folder on a removable disk, the disk must be in

the drive"

Now I have also burnt the backup file (550mb) to a cd and a dvd, and neither

neither will read either, it gives the message;

"Please insert disk 1" and when you hit OK it says "The disk you inserted is

not the correct one. Please insert disk 1"

Can someone please tell me why in the WHERE ARE THE FILES AND SETTINGS? part

of the Wizard, is the "Floppy drive or other removable media" option not

highlighted and allowed as a usable choice. I mean what is the point of

having it there if you cannot select it?

How else can I get around this problem, as the only means I have of

connecting these two computers that I have gotten to work is by USB, and that

doesn't seem to be a connection option in the Wizard either.

Thanks for your help, if you could email me any assistance it would be

really appreciated.

See the article on using FASTW by MVP Gary Woodruff at

http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm

One step that I always use and which seems to help in avoiding this

type of problem is to create a folder (I always name it Transfer) on

the computer where the data is to be saved, and tell the FASTW to save

it into this folder. FASTW will then create a USMT2.UNC folder in

the Transfer folder and will create the IMG00001.DAT file in USMT2.UNC

folder.

When restoring you need to direct the FASTW program to the Transfer

folder and not to the USMT2.UNC folder.

If your computer has a USMT2.UNC folder in the root directory and it

has the IMG0001.DAT file in it then you could try creating a new

Transfer folder and then drag the USMT2.UNC folder to it. Then see if

the data will transfer okay.

Good luck
