Guest charlestek Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 When I am doing large downloads (Visual Studio 2008 beta for example) from Msdn, the "System" process (NOT System Idle process) consumes near 100% cpu and prevents me from doing anything else on the machine. I tried snooping the System process tree with Wininternals latest Process Explorer, but none of the subtree items that are children of "System" show any high cpu usage. HELP!!
Guest Coraleigh Miller Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Re: Win2003 Svr Sp2 "System Process" 100% Cpu during large Msdn Downloads Hi Charlestek, The System process, in my experience, is hardware and driver related. Have you installed any new drivers or hardware when this issue started occuring? You should try running a hardware scan, some manufacturers offer scan utilites, as well as updating your drivers (or rolling back to previous known good ones). Also check your event log for related error codes which will give us more info.
