stylishjm Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 At first after reinstalling windows a few weeks ago my mouse worked fine untill it came to a point where it wouldnt work on the side usb ports on my laptop and only on the back ones. now it doesnt work at all. Ive bought a new mouse and that didnt work and tried an infra red mouse/keyboard one that works for a while then suddenly stops working although on the IR reciever it shows it recieving movements from the mouse. If i leave any of the mice plugged in overnight i always get a BSOD. Any ideas? Thanks Quote

Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Right click on Computer JM and choose Properties, then choose Device Manager. Tell us if there are any yellow question marks at the side of anything. Quote
stylishjm Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 Hello Do you mean I should uninstall all the usb host controllers, hubs etc? There arent any yellow question marks. Thanks Quote
stylishjm Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 OK ive uninstalled the 'unkown mouse' under the mice section and plugged it back in. It then said installing unkown hardware and shows an exclamation mark next to it. Before, the usb mouse worked straight away as soon as it was plugged in. Thanks Quote
Tony D Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Please restart the computer after uninstalling devices. See if that works. If the mouse came with a disk, run the disk to reinstall the driver. Also check to see if any other USB devices (flash drive, etc.) are working. Check all the USB ports to determine if you actually have a hardware problem. Quote Need help with your computer problems? GreyCell1988 Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I once had this problem a while back, was really weird i ended up having 2 re-install windows, due to it being a driver problem on the windows end. jus thought i'd point that out. Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I would guess the problem is more your 64bit OS as posted in previous posts 64bit OS do not have 'many compatible' drivers :( Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
GreyCell1988 Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I would guess the problem is more your 64bit OS as posted in previous posts 64bit OS do not have 'many compatible' drivers :( Yea that could be the problem, I bought a new mouse about a week back due to that. Quote
RandyL Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 That's good to know GreyCell. That you can pass that information on not that you had to buy a new one. So it seems this could be the problem. Dalo Harkin Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 It 'should' still use the normal Vista drivers to work, but seeing as though you have the 64bit OS I doubt the company did a driver for your mouse in 64bit - there are not many games or programs that are equipped and optimized for 64bit OS and even if they are you need a hefty GPU and CPU to see any real difference - for the benefits you see in a 64bit OS which at the moment is only being able to use more than 3.75GB RAM, I would seriously consider getting a 32bit OS. Yes it will cost money but you will encounter no where near as many problems as you are at the moment and the system will be much more stable. ;) Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
stylishjm Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 Hi thanks for all the information. Unfortunatly the mouse didnt come with a driver as it just relied on the built in windows driver. The before I had the issue of a slow system a while back, the mouse worked perfectly fine! Over a slow period of time the side usb ports stopped working for only the mouse (every other thing like the external HDD etc worked) then eventually the back ones wouldnt work for it either. Im using the mouse right now on my other laptop which also has the same version of windows installed and also tested it before hand on other os's and it all seems fine. Ive uninstalled the unknown driver for the mouse, restarted pc etc and it didnt do the trick unfortunatly. Ive also done a system restore to when the mouse was working fine but still it had no effect!!! I bought driver magician and updated all the drivers so maybe is there some sort of fault with my USB ports or could the windows usb mouse driver be corrupt in some way? Quote
Goku Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Hello Stylish. Did you start experiencing the problems after you upgraded to Vista? Also, do the USB ports work for other devices like Flash drives, keyboards or external hard drives? If they do, then the problem is with your Windows configuration or Vista itself. If they don't, then your USB ports have become corrupted and you will need to replace them. :) -- Goku Quote
stylishjm Posted July 20, 2008 Author Posted July 20, 2008 Hi the problems been going on/off for a while but ive reinstalled vista several times.. the last time i reinstalled it thats when it started playing up more than usual. Everything else like the external hdd, wifi and keyboard work fine! I had a infrared keyboard/mouse plugged into the usb and that worked for a while but the mouse would suddenly stop working after about 20 mins of use but still shows on the IR reciever that it still is getting movement from the mouse. Goku Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Have you tried another mouse? Seems to me that your current one has gone faulty or corrupted. -- Goku Quote
stylishjm Posted July 20, 2008 Author Posted July 20, 2008 It started happening with my old mouse so i bought another one which happened to be the exact same make and model and that didnt change a thing then eventually it stopped working all together. Ive tried it on other laptops on different OS's (including vista business and home) and it works perfectly Quote
Goku Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Stylish, I have tried to search a solution for your problem but it doesn't seem like a very common problem. However, while searching for a solution, I came across a silly one that worked for many people. All you have to do is click the mouse simultaneoulsy five or six times. If going by the testimonies, six to seven people resolved a similar problem this way so I hope it works for you too. I am not really expecting it to work so please post back the results as soon as possible. Good Luck. :) -- Goku Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Have you actually 'paired' the device - some MS keyboards and mice you need to press and hold a button on one of each to get them to synchronise - if this is not done they will not work after a 'designated' amount of time. have you tried reinstalling the USB port drivers that 'should' be on your MOBO disk? When installing Software from the MOBO disk on a new build it should always be in this order:- 1* OS and any service packs 2* MOBO drivers 3* GPU drivers any other combination and you can be looking at some serious compatibility issues.
