Hi, I have a problem with the audio on my system, I have 2x desktop Altec Lansing vs2420 speakers but i can only hear sound from my left speaker, the right speaker has no sound at all, So far I have tried, installing the latest Realtek AC'97 Drivers 4.04 Re-connecting the speakers to the PC Checking the audio preferences and options from the Control Panel Testing the speakers on a different PC (they work fine) Sound on both L and R ...... but nothing seems to do it, My system is: Windows XP sp2 AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.87 Ghz 2GB Ram 512MB GeForce 6200 TurboCache Winfast Motherboard / nForce4 chipset According to Wikipedia the nForce 4 chipset has several flaws including audio....... Could it be the chipset flaws that doesn't allow me to hear audio from one of the speakers? If so how can i hear audio from 1 speaker? if there was a problem with the chipset i wouldn't be able to hear any audio whatsoever right? Does anyone have any opinion on the issue? Has this happened to anyone? if so how did you solve it? p.s. the audio balance on the Master Volume is on the middle, not on the left lol Edited by kikouno

Hi Kikouno

Welcome to FPCH

These are Stereo speakers yes?

Have you tried testing the speakers on say a cd wlkman type of player or other device?

Read this from wicki about how to determine if the jack plug that goes into the pc is either stereo or mono.

If nothing works then you may have a damaged cable or a loose wire actually inside the speaker.

thanks for the reply, they are stereo speakers, i just tested the speakers on an ipod and they worked fine, there was sound on both left and right, the link you gave about the jack, i compared the image to my jack and it resembles the first jack, it has two rings, the speakers only have 1 jack not 2 like the image these are my speakers, the link displays the detailed specs about them http://www.alteclansing.com/images/spec/VS2420_SELL_SHEET.pdf many thanks

i have the system, chipset drivers (nvidia Chipset driver for 32 bit) the latest update i got from the nvidia website, the on-board audio drivers (Realtek AC97 Audio driver for 32 bit) .i downloaded from the realteck website 2 days ago, i didn't update the BIOS or flash BIOS on the foxconn website in case i might mess up my system, plus the foxconn motherboard model names are confusing, i might download wrong BIOS and ... don't even what to think about it, should i get a sound card instead? but i checked WIKi and my chipset model (nforce4) they say it has flaws with audio??? nForce4 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia half way down the page it states the FLAWS of the chipset

I must be missing something here.

Did you click that link and run a search?

Motherboard

Socket

Selected Model

In the second half of that page are the audio drivers for intel and AMD sound drivers.

i put the information on the foxconn website 1-Motherboards 2-Socket939 3-NF4K8AC-RS-1.0 and it displayed the chipset drivers, audio drivers, bios

i changed the model name just now, to nf4k8ac-8ekrs and i went to the second page as you said and it had drivers (Nfref 637.) maybe it's an update to previous drivers, what do you think?

thanks for the help, you deserve a medal, i'm currently downloading the link you gave and it'll see if it works, how does it differ from the realtec drivers on the realtek website? p.s. i'm running XP sp2

It seems to me that that audio driver is not supported in XP never mind Vista if that's what your running.

Our hardware expert will be online in a while kikouno and he may have another angle on this so I would call back to see what he may have to say.

Once again

Welcome to FPCH.

At the end of the day he will advise if it would be better to obtain a dedicated sound card, but if that card will work on a board that appears to not support basic drivers is anyone's guess.

He will advise you. :)
