Guest Bryce Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Can I delete what's in C:\windows\ServicePackFiles? Anything else I can safely delete? I'm trying to get a couple gigs of space back on the C drive. Thanks.
Guest Myweb Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Re: cleaning up space on C drive - can I safely delete this? Hello Bryce, Check out Diskclenaup from Start,Programs,Accesoires, system tools. It will check for temp files, temporary internet files and so on. If you are sure that you will not deinstall patches from MS you can also delete the uninstall folders from them. Also have a look in the softwaredistribution folder under c:\windows, if this uses a lot of space stop Automatic updates service, just delete it, start automatic updates, it will be recreated the next time you connect to windowsupdate.com. Hope this helps a littlebit. Guest Coraleigh Miller Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Re: cleaning up space on C drive - can I safely delete this? Hi Bryce, The C:\windows\ServicePackFiles location contains copies of your service packs which are used by your system for file version protection whenever you install a new windows component. I wouldnt remove it, but you could compress it. Guest SBS Rocker Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Re: cleaning up space on C drive - can I safely delete this? How about moving your pagefile.sys to a different partition or drive? Guest Newell White Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Re: cleaning up space on C drive - can I safely delete this? I freed up space on the C: drive by following steps: 1) 1.5Gbyte - Move most of C:\pagefile.sys to D: Create a new file D:\pagefile.sys, min = 1536Mbyte, max = 1536Mbyte Modify file C:\pagefile.sys, min = 128Mbyte, max = 128Mbyte Use regedit.exe to set HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Mnager\Memory Management ClearPageFileAtShutdown DWORD 0 => 1 Takes effect when you re-boot. 2) 1Gbyte - Move all folders C:\windows\$nt*uninst* to D:\exc_windows\ You can't uninstall MS updates to your operating system without moving them back, but in 2 years in this job I have never wanted to! 3) 0.65Gbyte - move app software If you have install CD or download, uninstall from C:\Program Files\ and re-install in D:\moved_programs\ These changes have been in place for at least 12 months with no problems. -- Newell White "Bryce" wrote: > Thanks everyone! > > > "SBS Rocker" <noreply@NoDomain.com> wrote in message > news:%23ulGSMf3HHA.5116@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > > How about moving your pagefile.sys to a different partition or drive? > > > > "Bryce" <fukuzz@hotmail.com> wrote in message > > news:46c0c727$0$491$815e3792@news.qwest.net... > >> Can I delete what's in C:\windows\ServicePackFiles? > >> > >> Anything else I can safely delete?
