Guest c wood Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 I have always had sound on my Dell Dimension XPS running Windows XP Pro, SP2. A couple of days ago, all sound ceased! I can't hear sound in browser videos ... not in CDs played on the CD drive .... not the Windows sounds. I've tried several repairs and a system restore to last week, but no change. I am also getting an error when I try to synchronize my clock. Are the problems related? HELP!! Has the sound card died? Has something been switched off or de-selected??? HELP!

Guest Ron Badour Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Re: i suddenly have no sound! help! Open the control panel to System, hardware, device manager and delete the sound card entries. Assuming you have the Dell resource CD, reinstall the audio driver following the instructions on the resource CD. I doubt that the clock problem is related to the sound problem. Please post the exact error message you get. -- Regards Ron Badour MS MVP 1997 - 2007 "c wood" <french-treasures@easyconnect.fr> wrote in message news:eg6irdh3HHA.748@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > In addition ... > I have tried a driver update and gotten the dreaded BSOD!! - three times. > > "c wood" <french-treasures@easyconnect.fr> wrote in message > news:OWfB3Vh3HHA.1484@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >>I have always had sound on my Dell Dimension XPS running Windows XP Pro, >> SP2. >> A couple of days ago, all sound ceased! >> I can't hear sound in browser videos ... not in CDs played on the CD >> drive >> ... not the Windows sounds. Guest bwana Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Re: i suddenly have no sound! help! Check to see if by chance you hit the mute button - you may have one at the top of the keyboard - or click on the volume icon and see if you've clicked on the mute function. Also, check that you do not have a head set or microphone jack plugged in thus causing mute. Finally, have you checked the volume control and if you have external speakers that they are not unplugged from each other or the power supply. Good luck.
