Routing, static routes etc. how does it all work.

G'day

I've just upgraded out Firewall, Internet pipe and all connected routers.

 

My Firewall is Checkpoint on a 2003 Server. It has 4 interfaces (Internet,

LAN, DMZ and other Org)

I'm having some big problems and it all seems to be reated as to how routing

works on 2003.

 

Before the upgrade I had a small number of static routes to send external

traffic to the correct path

and that was it. I didn't have default gateways defined on the network cards

either.

Now I have to have a default gteway assigned to my Internet interface and

I've had to include

a number of Static Routes to my internal network. I've been trawloing the

web for some accurate info

on how Windows Routing works but it all seems incomplete.

Help.

Mark,

If you set up the outside interface with the ISP's router as the gateway,

and the inside interfaces with their IP address but no gateway, what

problems are you having after that?

If you have other subnets that are not directly connected to one of the

firewall's interfaces you will need to add a route giving them the next hop

router to use.
