Windows Hangs on Splash Screen at boot up

I've been experiencing this problem for a while now- whenever I need to

restart windows or simply boot up, windows takes anywhere between 3 to 8

minutes to boot up. It hangs for almost the whole time at the windows splash

screen. I have tried sos and nogfx boot modes but it hasn't helped me

determine the source of the problem. Any solution would be greatly welcomed

since it makes it extremely inconvient to restart or simply shut my computer

down.

Check your HDD

go to command prompt (using boot CD )

chkdsk /r

Good luck

I've run a chkdsk recently, what will a /r from the boot command do for me

that a normal one wont? I'm planning on a full reformat soon (once I get all

my stuff backed up and find the program disks) but I wanted to make sure this

wasn't a hardware issue.

You could try a Windows repair.
